Uniform Resource Locators or URLs for short are shared by people as links. They can be quite long and really fill up a text message or an email and just look clunky. Welcome everyone to Botsplash.TV, I’m Willem Osuch and join me as I delve into the nature and purpose of short URLs.
What is a Short URL, or URL shortening? It’s a technique in which a URL link can be made substantially smaller than its long form and still direct a person to the link’s required page. The brevity of short URLs proves advantageous when wanting to share URL links with clients and prospects, but without sending a long, tech-jargon-filled link.
Short URLs are easy to send, especially in texts and chats where you cannot create hyperlinks – that is, attaching a URL link to a specific word or part of a sentence in a text or chat. Some sites such as TinyURL and Bitly help with shortening URLs for people to use in their communicative outreaches.
With regards to the Botsplash omnichannel customer engagement platform, short URLs are a free and fully integrated part of the platform. Long form URLs can easily be shortened within the platform and shared in their shortened form.
I hope that this short overview of short URLs has been helpful. I’m Willem Osuch and thank you once again for watching Botsplash.TV.
